Youth Camp Highlight -- Day 4

Day 4 (Dec 17) was a rainy day. That marked the end of 2005 BOG youth camp.

Since that was the last day, everybody was granted with extra one hour sleep and cancelled the morning exercise. Morning prayer (devotion) still carried on.

We have milo/tea, bake bean, hard-boiled egg for breakfast.

After the breakfast was the wrapping up and feedback. Everybody took their turns to answer 3 questions. 1) What you had learned from the camp. 2) What you like the most. 3) What you don't like the most. Oliver didn't like the video taping, Daniel C and Raymond were surprised with the youths' talents. Mei Wan said we have the most obedence youth. All the standard 6 boys didn't like share the same bed with others. Haha.

Every camper received a beautiful round badge designed by Raymond. E-Hun found out that there is a spelling mistake on the badge. Ops! Never mind lah, that made the badge special. There is only 50 copies in the whole world.

Ok, start the packing ...

Cleaning up ....

Moving out ....

Taking group photo ...

And heading home .....

The End

Youth Camp Highlight -- Day 3

Day 3 (Dec 16th) started with rain. Morning exercise and devotion were moved to indoor. Got to pray hard for a good weather, otherwise, the outing would have to be cancelled.

Day 3's breakfast was milo/tea and egg sandwiches. The breakfast team had started to prepare the egg the night before. The sandwiches were really nice.

After breakfast, we had some warm up games. First we had "Picking Up The Beans" competition. Everybody took their turns to pick up red beans with chopstick from a bowl of beans which include red, green and black beans. Not that easy though, you got to make 5 turns before you count start picking up the beans. The second game was "5-fold ministry" again. They just love this game even until today.

Sam shared in session 4 about "Shining your light". Key message was we will only know how bright we can shine when we are in the darkness. Darkness is also created by God for a His glory. Light always win over darkness. We need to draw close to God so that our light can continue to shine.

After session 4, we had Day 3 project briefing. This was not a group competition project but rather for the youths to present a sketch as one. The story for the sketch was "Turning in the Storm", written by sister Amy. We had invited Bro Paul, Bro EngHuat, Bro David Teh and his family to be our audiences and to give some comments for the presentation at night. Most of the youths were participated in acting part. Some, led by Raymond involved in constructing and setting up the props. We managed to squeezed some time for our first practice before lunch time.

After lunch, it was our outing time. Our first destination was Butterfly farm, then followed by Spice Garden. But, the sky was dark, and the wind was strong.... Per plan, we had 4 vehicles for the trip, but before we started our journey, we had to abandon Raymond's car due to some problem with one of his tire. hai....

Thank God! When we reached the Butterfly farm, the sky was clear and the rain had stopped. And we got a discount for the entrance fees. The butterfly farm was really beautiful and full of butterflies.

Zoe was so afraid of all the inserts in the butterfly farm. And those boys grabbed all the opportunities to frighten her with butterflies. So bad.

After spending about one hour in Butterfly farm, we moved on to Spice Garden. Thank God for the favor, we got a very good discount for the entrance fee. Now the weather was really perfect. No strong sunlight, cool breeze. It was like Cameron highland weather. The scenery in the Spice Garden was really beautiful. The boys enjoyed the Giant Swing very much. We were lost for a while because one of the red arrow on the floor was misplaced. After climbing out the hill though the fern terrain's, we spent quite sometime in the cafeteria at the top of the hill which overlook the sea. We were having fun trying some special spicy drinks, taking some photos, and having some fellowship.

After one and a half hour in Spice Garden, we were back to the camp site, bath, rest, and managed to squeeze some time out to practice for the sketch before and after the dinner. While we were having our last practice, wow! The audiences had arrived. To our surprise, pastor and sister Joy arrived as well! Oh no!!.

Finally, the sketch was up on the "stage". It was about 25min long. All acted very well, and we had special sound effect (crying) by Oliver. Too bad, no photo was taken during the acting because I was busy with the video cam. :p. The audiences were thumbs up with the performance. Bravo to every youth here.

After the acting, we had the pre-recorded testimonies from Joe, Elaine and Willaim. Forgot the mention that we also had Abigail's voice recorded testimonies on Day2.

After the Lord's Supper, we had birthday celebration. Poh Nee's birthday was on the next day (17th). Since everybody was so excited, we celebrated the birthday for Oct, Nov and Dec. The cake was yummy.

Next activity suppose to be free form fellowship, but since it was heavy rain outside, so we decided to stay in the hall and play some games.

First we had the "Guess Who". This was fun. Some were so nervous that they forgot their opponent's name even they were in the same group/room for the past 2 days. Some were confused about Jun Ni and Jun May, Chin Hun and Chin Chin. To our surprise, Rachel forgot Raymond's name! Oliver was the fastest and had the highest hit rate. Did he prayed before the curtain came down?

Next we had "5-fold ministries" again!. This was the third time we played this game. It was really exciting. Gabriel screamed at the top of his voice and made everybody nervous. While E-Hun and Ah Kiong was fighting for a seat, Gabriel was laughing until he rolled down from his chair, and E-Hun took his chair!!.

Last, we ended the day with prayer of blessings.

Youth Camp Highlight -- Day 2

Day 2 (Dec 15th) started with morning exercise led by Daniel Choong, then followed by devotion (prayer time) led by Seet Yuan.

Next we had our 1st breakfast of Youth Camp prepared by our breakfast team led by Mei Wan. Team members were Rachel Choong, Eunice, Roy and Raymond. We had miro, tea, and assorted biscuits as breakfast.

After the breakfast, we had a warm up game called "Murderer". Ops... Some violence game? Don't worry, No action involved except blinking the eyes, rolling the eyeballs..Etc. Each team took their turns to be polices, and figured out who among the rest were murderers or VCD sellers. There was also a savior there to raise those were killed by the murderers.

Second session was led by Mei Wan. The topic that she shared was "Follow Me". The bible story involved was about Peter and the rest of fishermen who caught nothing but later caught a lot of fishes when Jesus asked them to do it again. The Key message was that even we have a lot of tools, a lot of talents, a lot of resources, we won't be able to achieve anything if God doesn't involve. The most important thing is to set our priority right and to put God first in EVERYTHING we do. Mei Wai was really steady. This was not her first time to share. Alright, will get her to share more. Hmm... How about teaching in Children Hour? hehehe....

Oh! By the way, we had a surprised visit form sister Amy!!!! Thank God that she was there, otherwise, our lunch would be one hour late.

After the session, we had some spare time to work on Day 2 project before the lunch. Each group was to build a 3D structure with all the materials that had been given to them and whatever they could find. The topic is "Light of the World". Each group was given a light bulb with wires and batteries. That means the structure that they built had to be able to shine in the dark. Wow, need some science class students here.

After lunch, we had an outdoor worship followed by games!!!!

First, we had "Greatest Gift of All". It is actually some skill competition. Like eating tomatoes, alfafa grass, celery, bitter tea, doing algebra calculation, picking up beans with chopstick, writing with legs and memory tests.
Key highlight: Daniel Choong's leg-writing is better than his handwriting. haha.

Second game was "Station Game". We had 5 stations.
-1st station: Blowing Candles. Station master: Mei Wan.
-2nd station: Protecting The Egg (protecting the egg from breaking when dropped it from 2nd floor). Station master: Ah Kiong
-3rd station: Charade. Station master: Daniel Choong.
-4th station: Bible Quiz. Station master: Seet Yuan
-5th station: Song Composing (only the lyrics). Station master: Sam.
Chiew Yi was the time keeper and me... hehehe... taking all the funny shots.

Key highlights:
- Although Jia Ming is so thin but yet he has the strongest lung. He blew off the most candles.
- Roy is so big size but he couldn't blow off any candle.
- Somebody put down "Moon Gate" as one of the 12 gate on the wall of Jerusalem! I thought moon gate is at Penang Hill?
- One group composed the song in 3 separate modules at the same time and yet these 3 modules carried the same meaning. And one of the module was in mandarin.

After the station game, we moved to the beach for the next activity: "Beach the Good News." Each group had to build a sand structure that tells the Good News.
Below is their masterpiece. From left ot right: Triumph, EYE, & Dream Chaser.

Next activity was "Captain Beach Ball". It was actually captain ball but using the beach ball and suppose to play on the beach. However, because it is high tide, we moved to the open field instead. Again, Jia Ming was the hero in this game. Nobody can beat him in his swift movement.

Ok, time to clean up, take the dinner and find free time to work on day 2 project before session 3 start.
Agnes left us this time as she had her wisdom tooth operation on the next day :(

After the worship, we had a quick game before session 3. This was rated the most excited game of the camp: "5-fold ministries". This game was played with color cards (we need 5 colors so we used "Amen" cards). Red -> prophet; blue -> pastor; green ->teacher; purple -> apostle; and yellow -> evangelist. Everybody was given a card and had to hold the cards up so that others could see. The person in the center would draw a card and shout the ministry name. Those who had the same ministry had to exchange seat, including the person in the center. Whoever couldn't find the seat would be the one to draw the next card. By the way, when "evangelist" was called, everybody had to move because evangelism involve everybody!. Got it?

Seet Yuan was sharing in session 3 on "Rejoice". The bible character involved was Job. She also shared about her own testimonies. Oh! That was so touching. The key message was rejoice in all situations. When we face persecution, respond "G.R.E.A.T"ly.
Gabriel joined us in time for session 3 and managed to contribute to his team's day 2 project.

Lastly, we had Day 2 project presentation to end the day. From left to right, Dream Chaser, Triumph, & EYES
Alright, that's all for day 2. What a long day.

Youth Camp Highlight -- Day 1

Finally, on Dec 14, we had our youth camp started. Great! A good weather as a start.

Forgot to mention that the theme for this year is "Light of the World"

Last minute, 2 girls dropped off and 3 small boys joined in. No choice :( we had to reshuffle the room. Squeezed the girls to make one room for the boys. Sorry girls. But I think they enjoyed sharing the beds.

When we reached the camp site, wow! the wave is really high and rough. Oliver asked whether Tsunami will come! Oh, please, say something positive! Need to ban him from giving negative comment. hehe

First we had the opening prayer from Bro Beh, Bro Paul and Pastor . Then we had some rules and regulartion briefing, followed by group and room arrangement.

This years we had 3 groups, each group had a leader and a coach who is form 6 and above. And we had a uniq combination this year. Majority of camper who aged between 15 to 17 were chinese educated girls and majority of camper aged below 14 were boys!!!

Next, each groups were to come out with their group name and logo. This is what we had: 1) Triumph, 2) EYES (eyes only for God), 3) Dream Chaser.

Then we had some briefing about Day 1 project. Instead of a big puzzle project that lasted for 3 days as last year, we had one small project per day this year. For the Day 1 project, each group was given a story book written by Sister Amy, and they were to come out with a sketch.

After everybody found their way to their room and put down their stuffs, we gathered in the main camp hall and started our first activity. Yeah!!!

The first games was "Know one another". This game was played using UNO cards, and each round we have a topic to know about others. E.g. favorite food, favorite subject, favorite TV shows, etc. If you got a UNO card that is the same color as one in the team, you had to say out the favorite of whatever of that person, the faster one got to give all the cards from the slower one.

Second game is "Tramped on Snake and Scorpian". HaHa... so biblical ah? It is actually stepping on balloons on others legs. Funny part is when the whistle was blown none of them moved because they were soo afraid that their balloon would burst because of their movement.

Next we have "Water Volleyball". The ball is water balloon. Kiong and Daniel C took a long time to fill up all these balloons and they were burst within a few seconds :(. This round, Oliver and Chin Han is the best catches. Wait till you see the video.

Then we have battleship game (similar to those we play on board) but using water balloons as bomb. Oliver has a suicide bombing on himself. haha!

After all the fun and laugh, everybody went back to their rooms to bath, rest, prepare for the project, have the dinner and get ready for the night praise and worship, and followed by our first session.

Alright! Daniel Choong took the 1st session. He shared about "Repentance". Bible characters involved were Esau and David. The key message was repentance has to sincere and it involves changing of our heart and turns away from sins. Daniel was kind of nervous at the begiining but getting better later. Some funny mistake here. Oliver said Esau is Abraham's son! and Daniel said Beesheba is David's soldier's son!!! But mistakes were corrected on the spot. hehehe.

After the session, discussion about Psalm 51, worship, prayer, we had communion. Due to lack of cups, some of us use bowl instead. HAHA.

Alright, it is time for Day 1 project presentation!!!. Hard to describe here. But all the actings were capture in the video.

First we have "Triumph" to present the sketch on "Adam's Song", then followed by "Dream Chaser" to present an Inhalation story (forget the actual name), last we have "EYES" to present "Slim Chances". The sketches were really great. We found some talented actors and actresses. They are Angie, E-Hun, Oliver, Daniel Boey, Poh Nee and Yvonne. And I rated Rachel Choong as best director!. (This is my view only, doesn't represent the view of all Youth camp commitee. :P).

We found few surprises here as well. 1) Roy is good in acting as well. 2) E-Hun can sing and play the guitar at the same time!!! And now he want to be a guitarist!!!

Ok, thats all for the day. Had a good night sleep and prepared for day 2.
